afternoon tea
my favourite flea market cup for 25 cents, captured through the viewfinder of my polaroid camera. well-loved and tea stained, with fault lines that tell of a long history of cups sipped with stories, tousled morning yawns, afternoons at grandmother's table. what did they drink? chamomile? earl grey? for now, darjeeling white tea, here, with me, just in time for risa's tea party.
i've brought tea biscuits, warmed in the oven, with butter and organic honey. they crumble and melt, no dipping needed (but you can if you like ;)
i'm in a mellow mood for a tea party today. i think it's because we finally have snow. i've never been so excited to hear about wind chill.
soon i'm off to the library - there are books that have finally come in, and i can't wait to see what's waiting for me.
if you (like me) like stories with your tea...
* for esme, with love and squalor (of course! ;)
xo
Enjoy your trip to the library. I just love spending a few good hours at the library or the bookstore.

I love books, and the tea party made me want to curl up with a good book, and stay inside. The temp here is 1 degree...Very chilly. So seeing all the teas, and treats makes me feel so warm!

Ah, lucky girl. I was thinking of going today and then didn't, silly me. Nothing like being surrounded by books - have fun, I'll keep a cup warm for you :)

If teacups could tell their stories... love your beautiful cup, with all its stains and marks of the past.

Warm tea biscuits that crumble and melt sound just the thing to me.
Having just returned from the library this afternoon, I will enjoy one of those tantalising biscuits with a book on Kiki Smith.
take care and happy reading to you, grache

A trip to the library is one of my favourite ways to spend a couple of hours. I think it sounds even more romantic with the snow falling outside.

Hi,
Pretty cup. I live in the West Indies. One of my wedding gifts from August 11th 1979, was a dinner set in the same pattern on this teacup.
When I saw the picture, I was immediately transported back to that time and all the excitment of setting up house and settling into my new life.
The picture also evoked a spell of immense gratitude for my life - I am 51 years old and have been married for twenty seven years.
What remains from the dinner set? 1 dinner plate and 1 gravy boat and I cherish them deeply.

What a beautiful image. My grandmother collected tea cups. They've been tucked away in a box for years. I think I'll take them out.
I can't remember how I got here, but I've enjoyed my stay :-)
